In this video WLSC demonstrates the use of an LP9000U a 355nm UV laser marking system for marking color contrasting 2D bar codes on glass, the bar code and text takes approximately 3 seconds of laser time on .005” or .17mm thick glass slide, the bar codes is completely machine readable and can in fact be read with a cell phone application – I use quick mark on an android phone.

Laser automaton will allow the printing of bar codes with or without human readable text, all types of data can be stored on the laser printed bar code such as patient details for medical applications, ingredients or formulas for pharmaceutical applications, serial number and product ID to help protect the product from warranty fraud and counterfeiting, date and time to the second of manufacture, line and plant of manufacture, which carton or box the part was placed in to create a child [first part] in a laser track and trace or laser e-pedigree program,  Laser Automation with bar codes and integrated laser vision systems also can be used to trace parts through the manufacturing process for JIT inventory control and Laser Automation e-commerce production verification – ties to actual e-commerce orders received.

Laser Automation from WLSC will allow integrated laser system to be fully controlled by production systems and also provide for full data base reporting of laser results, one customer for example uses Laser Automation from WLSC to load and sequence up to 250 different .DXF files with cutting patterns which the Zap-IT software controlled automated laser system loads and sequences running all the files in correct order to produce the final laser cut product. Zap-IT laser controller software is a proprietary software from WLSC that allows for laser integration to receive instructions, carry out laser operations and report results to data bases for various control and reporting functions.  In another application the WLSC customer used Laser Automation to create a 2D bar code and human readable text on the covers of small electronics packages, the LP9000U 355nm laser system was utilized in this application as the part were very heat sensitive and transference of heat from an IR [1064nm to 1067nm] laser would cause damage to the electronics package [ the UV 355nm laser does not use heat to complete the marking process and is a cool laser marking process] the Laser Automation used a integrated laser vision system to find the part and orient the bar code on the part so the Laser Automation would print bar code and human readable text on the direct center of the part [Laser Automation of printing top to bottom and left to right using laser integration of vision system edge tools] additionally the integrated laser vision system oriented the laser 2D or laser data matrix bar code so the bar code is and text are readable top to bottom vis-à-vis the top to bottom orientation of the part, as a final step the integrated laser system reads the bar code [assuring readability] and verifies that the Laser Automation printed the proper information as provided by the companies production PLC controller. All the details and information gathered in this manner are reported to data bases for track and trace accountability of the parts and to assure no sequential numbering duplication takes place.
